Process

This WebQuest is designed to improve reading comprehension in English, and to encourage you to think more critically about a topic in order to be able to express your ideas in a formal core writing assignment.

1. The first step is getting a grip on the topic. Read the Aesop’s fable quickly, and answer the comprehension questions which lead you to look for the main idea and bring your own experience to the text.
2. Reread the fable aloud in groups of three and discuss the questions as a group and as a class.
3. Review the glossary before reading the Maugham’s story, for help with some of the more difficult vocabulary.
4. Read the Maugham’s story and after having answered the comprehension questions, read it a second time for going more deeply into the topic. Use the questions to understand it better.
5. Discuss your answers in small groups and as a class.
6. For the essay, you need to include a well-written introduction and conclusion.
Ø Introduction:
There are many ways to introduce an essay; sometimes writers used an anecdote, a suitable quotation, a question, or the background necessary for the reader to understand their point.
Ø Conclusions:
They leave the reader with some final thoughts (but not new ideas) on the main idea and the supporting points.
